No personality clashes needed. Long before the coming collapse had become obvious to most governments (who of course took good care of themselves), I had dug in way up in Northern Canada, where few others wanted to be and global climate warming could be more easily handled. Dracula from LOVE AT FIRST BITE) Having my bunker built underground on remote public land and stocked properly took many years and many different crews, overpaid and fired frequently, and lots of bribes, to help keep it secret. Then I just closed it, camouflaged and booby-trapped all approaches and entries, and stayed away for almost 30 years. So it was forgotten. When the "Northwestern Republic" declared its independence from America and Canada, I sneaked in one night and slammed the door on the chaos.
