Part 10

Ritu switched on the torch in her mobile and walked to the front gate of her house, peering nervously around the front yard, her legs shaking. She had the feeling that the cobra was out now. The woman had said that her husband had closed the hole, but the snake such as Cobra was smart enough to find another way. Another hole.

She shuddered and stopped near the front gate, flashing the mobile torch nervously around her. Nothing. She shook her head and opened the front gate. It was strange how a snake could terrorize your senses without ever showing up.

As she stepped out into the street, the soft night breeze stirred her forelock, shifting it over her eyes. She tucked it behind her ear and looked up and down the street, trying to locate any slithering movement. Nothing. Strangely, fear of the Cobra had overshadowed her it good of the night. Was it good in some way?
