​ Abby adventually accepted that Gabby wasn't in their lives for the moment. She survived her sister missing. Every year on their birthday she got her sister a present where her parents couldn't even buy her a present without breaking down. It was starting to get inbetween her parents. They finally split but still lived in the same with each other. Her father moved into the basement's little kitchenette while her mother had the rest of the house to herself

​ When Abilene got sick they did get back together. Grandma Franklin moved into the basement where she could help with her daughter and her daughter's family. Abbey tiptoed around the house trying to be quiet and out of the way.She saw her mother go down hill quickly. Abby's mother had MS and she was needed when she was fifthteen to take over most of the house duties so Grandma Franklin stayed with Abilene's home health nurse taking care of her
