Part 2

Fire. The flames licked the house, turning the beautiful home into ash and dust. People watched with big eyes, pointing, staring, talking to each other about in in hushed voices. No one did anything. "Help them!" A little girl pulled on peoples sleeves, tugging them toward the heat, only to get yelled at and pushed away. "It's too dangerous. We can't go back in there, kid. Sorry." Firefighters wrapped her in blankets while she sobbed and held on to a stitched up teddy bear. The burns that ran up her arms and legs was a throbbing, dull pain. She watched them hose down the home, putting her in the truck. "Don't worry. You'll be safe with us. It's all over." But it never is.
