"How do I look?"

"Beautiful" he says. That smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

"Adela" my mother called again. Boy was she annoying.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Her finger still on the buzzer.

Darryl shoved his hand in his trouser pockets as he shakes his head slightly, retreating backwards.

"Wait until you meet my parents."

Foster parents.

His life publicly known. His mother a dedicated mother and housewife. Only in the eyes of the public. His father an illustrious lawyer, until he committed a murder- suicide. After he found out his wife was having an affair with one of his clients.

The thought broke my heart. How devastating the act and circumstances surrounding it. Darryl witness the whole ordeal. He was only ten at the time.
