It takes her about five minutes to calm down enough to talk. "John and I went for a walk in the woods after school and we started making out. He wanted to have sex… I told him I wasn't ready, but he wouldn't let up, kept pushing me."

"Jesus, did he rape you?" She lets out a heart-wrenching sob and falls into my arms. "Shit! We need to call the police."

"No!"

"What?"

"I can't talk about it to strangers, please. I know he'll deny it, say I wanted to." We sit on her bed, Allie on one side of her, me on the other. Allie asks what she wants to do. "I want to put it behind me, try to forget it."

My sense of justice is screaming, yet I understand Les' point. If she goes public with this, the gossip in school will be unbearable. She will always be the girl who accused John Faber of rape. It's time for me to hit strategy mode while Allie does what she does best, comforts her.

"All right, we need to figure out what to say about the break up… what if I say he came on to me? I'll make him sound like a real douche bag."

Allie offers, "Maybe we should say Les broke up with him, we don't have to give a reason."

"Bullshit! He might not go to jail, but he is damn well going to get some serious payback for this. He is NOT getting off scott-free." She backs down with an eyebrow raise. Even 'Miss Eternal Optimist' has to agree on this.
