1980

The GALs are checking into Caesar's Palace in Vegas for four days, and I'm giddy with anticipation. Since graduating high school, we make it a point to get away together at least once a year. We call it our 'birthday bonus'. This trip was my pick, since I love to play blackjack. Leslie usually chooses a spa, and Allie a beach or skiing, so our sojourns are pretty well rounded. Neither of them gamble much, but Leslie loves the shopping here and Allie spends most of the day at the pool. Dining is great and we all love that. Allie's wedding is in three weeks, so this trip is doubling as a bachelorette party. She has not come to her senses, and it's evident to me she has blinders on when it comes to Michael. Leslie has convinced me to let it go.

We unpack, make reservations for dinner, and bee-line to the pool bar for a drink and a snack. It's October 19th and the forecast is for mid-eighties the whole four days, Perfect! I'm sipping my margarita and lying back in the sun with a Cheshire cat grin. "Four days hanging with the GALs and blackjack. It don't get any better than this." We all took Valium on the plane and slept like the dead, so we are well rested.

I return to the room to shower first. We shopped together last week and all found sexy dresses and heels that are so high it will be a miracle if one of us doesn't break an ankle. We decide tonight is the night to wear them. Walking to the restaurant, we are feeling pretty full of ourselves. We know we look great and all the eyes that follow us through the lobby confirm this.
