Allie's near tears, eliciting an eye roll from me. "It's not that big a deal. I know you're all for the happily-ever-after crap, but really, show me one couple who's been together for more than-let's say five years-that still has a great relationship? A couple you look at and say 'I hope to find that someday'." I glare at her. "C'mon, can you think of anyone?"

She sets her jaw and fists her hips. "Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward."

"Are you kidding me? For all you know, they're swingers. I think you have made my point. The bottom line is, familiarity breeds contempt. Spend enough time with someone and you will find reasons to hate them. As far as I'm concerned, once you're comfortable enough with a guy to piss in front of him, it's time to give him his walking papers."

Leslie chuckles. "You have to be the most cynical person alive. Why don't you tell us how you really feel?"

I flip her the bird, and head to the bathroom. "Yeah, yeah. If I had a dime for every time someone said that to me."

By the time we arrive at the party, I have convinced both Les and Allie to support my decision. Les crosses her arms. "One condition-Allie and I have to approve your choice."

We all spend the first hour of the party interviewing candidates without letting them know why. We figure, "What college-age guy is going to pass up a free lay with no strings attached?" It's kind of fun, shaking our heads or nodding to each other across the room, the guys oblivious to what is going on around them. I know I'd be a lot more nervous about this if it were not for the GALs taking part.
