Kat shook her head and gazed out the window. She didn’t expect Julia to fully understand her frustration. The women were close, but seventeen years apart in age; Julia still had young children. Kat knew from experience how much focus was put into raising kids and creating a memorable family life during the formative years. While her daughter, Mandy, was growing up, nothing ever took precedent over her needs. Kat’s entire life revolved around her daughter, but Mandy was twenty-five now, living a thousand miles away. It wasn’t until Mandy moved out that Kat realized just how much she took care of Bill, and how responsible she had become for his emotional well-being.
